4 quick steps to stay lean through the holidays

The Holidays are upon us! I love this time of year. So many events with awesome people. Everyone’s in a great mood… warm bevvies and cookies are out…

GULP! That’s where some of us start panicking. We wanna enjoy those beautiful, enticing treats that surround us – but we don’t wanna undo all the hard work we’ve put in with our

  • Workouts
  • Healthy eating
  • Overall more healthy living- sleep, hydration, etc..

This is where we WANNA say  ” It’s the holidays! Let go a little and enjoy” – right?!

Well, I don’t know about you – but I am sick of looking back at bad holiday photos.. you know the ones where you instantly look at yourself and think “Gross!” –  Plus let’s face it – Do you really like feeling like you need a nap all the time and like you were poured into your pants?

This is seriously no bueno!  I hate it when I my face is puffy, my neck looks big and I’m wearing “flowy” shirts to make me feel better about my belly roll. Thanks a lot holiday cookies and extra glass of wine!

So to help us all out – (Me, included ) I set up four simple steps (PLUS my fav party healthy appetizer- It’s suuuper easy and quick to make) that make it freakin’ easy to feel great AND  love the way you look in all the photos:)

If you’re reading this and your inner 8 year old saying “I don’t wanna” But you KNOW you need to – Read THIS POST for some inspiration It’ll shut your whiney self right up. Read More

VIDEO! The #1 tip for a great holiday season

Okay – so I love the holidays, but maaan the social calendar can fill fast!

How do you keep up with all those meetups and parties? I know I can feel like I’m dragging myself from one thing to the next and just trying to keep up with it all.

Do you do that?

STOP! Stick to this simple rule – If it’s not a Hell YES! – It’s a Hell NO!

Face it – no one wants you showing up feeling obligated or exhausted. They invited you because they love the FULL you. So if you can’t bring that/ Can’t show up as your best self- then let them know! I mean they are your people, right?

SO dump the excuses, tell them you’re just not up for it and make a time to meet up some other time!

IF it’s something you KNOW you Really should show up for – and it’s a Hell No- then ask yourself this:  “Will I be better for going to this”

That’s exactly what I had to ask myself tonight before I head out to my divorce support group. It’s rainy, cold and I don’t feel like tlaking about feelings.. but will it make me better – Hell YES it Will! So I’m going.

Take Care;)

This right here is your #1 trick to get what you most need, every day.

Okay, so it’s not a massage or a personal assistant.. but it is what the ONE thing that busy people are missing from their diets and TOTALLY need more of.

GREENS! Specifically Dark Leafy Greens.

Yeah, we can grab a green smoothie, or order a salad somewhere, but lets face it those juice bar smoothies add up (plus real food you chew is always better for you) AND most salads in restaurants are pretty sub par. Plus that get’s boring, right!

That’s why I got super excited when I discovered KALE LOVE.

(MAKE SURE YOU SCROLL DOWN FOR YOUR SPECIAL DISCOUNT CODE)

As you know KALE is king of the veggies

KALE LOVE is snackable (super tasty) kale

AKA “CHIP” that happens to have a bunch of other healthy stuff added to it and tastes freakin’ fantastic!

Here’s why you gotta listen to this podcast episode I did with Robin Thompson, the creator and joint owner of KALE LOVE. She fills you in on

  • Why this stuff will drastically improve your everyday health
  • Why it tastes great
  • Why kids and not so healthy eaters love this stuff!

How could you not with choices like: Peanut butter, Spicy Notcho, Ranch, Vegan cheese

& Ghost chile notcho- YUM!

  • Why they have the BEST ingredients
  • How to easily get a hold of this, anytime, anywhere
  • How Robin and Joe (Owners) went from addicts to healthy parents & prosperous business owners
  • How they are giving back in a huge way

This is a super inspirational story – In fact the local news in Seattle recently did a story on them

BUT – back to you! Kale Love is your total fix to staying healthy and looking great!

This stuff is bursting with health boosting goods.Best part is – the owners know all the farmers of every single ingredient they put into their chips. Especially you Veg heads and Vegans:)

Yup – pretty awesome.  Once I learned just how special this chips are- so special that I had to see them in person. Here’s a quick vid from production kitchen in Seattle. SEE VIDEO BELOW

I hope you thoroughly enjoy this podcast, there’s an amazing story hidden in there. OOH! since this is just in time for Thanksgiving- make sure and order up some of these goodies – they are a great addition to basically anything at the Thanksgiving table

  • Appetizer tray
  • on top of baked squash or mashed potatoes

How to get “cheesy. creamy” foods without the dairy

With colder, darker weather come those darn comfort food cravings.

This is just part of being human, as things get more wet, dark and chilly – you naturally will see out things that make you feel cozy and warm.

Stuff like soups, grilled cheese sandwiches etc..

If you’re like me, and your body doesn’t feel good (or look good) when you eat cheese or milk, this can feel like a bit of a bummer.

WELL prepare to be super happy! There happens to be a quick fix to make your foods exciting, creamy and taste cheesy again- WITHOUT the dairy.

It’s NOOCH. AKA Brewer’s Yeast.

In fact I’ using it to make a CREAMY Broccoli soup today and to add some awesome flavor to my otherwise boring Baked Kale.

If you don’t alredy know why NOOCH is the bomb, read below:) And of course share this with your friends. Even if you do eat dairy.. this is an awesome all natural booster food (packs a ton of nutrients, B vitamins, protein) that tastes fantastic

The #1 trick to stay on track

Ready for this?! It’s so simple and works every darn day:)

Your #1 trick to stay on track with anything is –  TAKE SMALLER BITES

I mean that in terms of your work, workouts, health habits, social life etc…

Try this out – you wanna do healthy meal prep weekly – but can’t find the time? Take 1 small bite of that meal prep. Maybe that means tomorrow you do just half the grocery shopping.. in and out in 10 mins. Then Friday you do the rest — just 15 more mins shopping. Then Sat – cook just 1 of the meals you want prepped and Sunday cook the rest.

See! Easy, simple and gets it done.

I did this today for my workout- I was tired and had a lot to get done – So I promptly changed into my workout clothes after my AM clients – got in 22 minutes , YUP – 22 mins of kettlebell work.  Then this evening – I got in another half hour …

I took small bites of what I needed done, it all happened and I feel great. So – stop taking it all on and overwhelming yourself.

Keep it simple and take smaller bites till ya got it done:) You got this I know it!!

The Kick in the Butt you need

OKay- So I gotta admit, I need a kick in the butt.

Life’s gotten a bit bumpy and maaaan do I wanna wallow. Not huge wallowing.. just stay on the couch in my comfy pants with my dog and Roku remote wallowing. Now, even though I know that’s okay to do once in a while.. it’s not gonna do me any good right now.

Right now I need to keep my head high and eyes forward. For my mental health AND simply because I gotta work! Going through a divorce and moving can really wipe your bank account.

I happened to come across this story on NPR a couple weeks ago. After just a few minutes of hearing this story – I felt way better about my situation and realized just how lucky I am!

I can’t wait for you to feel the same:)  It’s all thanks to Dr. Tererai Trent. Now I couldn’t find the audio file, but I did find an awesome clip from Ms. Oprah Winfrey on Terari (of course Oprah would find her!! )

http://www.oprah.com/own-oprahshow/tererai-trents-story-video

This woman overcame intense adversity. I mean the F*ing odds were stacked against her.

  • poverty
  • living in a 3rd world country
  • abusive husband
  • 6 kids
  • no money
  • no education

But this lady stood up and said “It is Achievable” She literally went from nothing – to becoming a Dr. and opening up schools in her native Zimbabwe so she could change the lives of countless girls and women. She wanted to end the ugly cycle she saw herself caught in.

So .. If you’re feeling like things are hard and you just can’t muster up the strength to do what you need to do- Watch this CLIP, listen to Dr. Tererai Trent and know that Anything “IS ACHIEVABLE”

Anti Cold Smoothie

So… When you’re feeling that dull ache in your head and body, like you know you’re headed to sick town, there’s a couple things you can do right away (and every day for the few days) to head off that bug.

  1. Get in more protein – aids in recovery and keeps you strong
  2. Get in more greens – packs in the most vitamins and nutrients

This can be hard to pack in high quality protein and veg, especially with busy days. That’s why I engineered an awesome smoothie that packs a protein and green punch + a bunch of other anti- inflammatory/ immune boosting foods.

Check it out!

I do a full pitcher and pour them into 4 grab and go cups (I prefer – blender ball bottles).

Each day I just grab one and go!

PODCAST. How to deal with a breakup and NOT wreck yourself

I’ve always been known as a straight shooter. So I’m gonna stay true to that here for you.

Two weeks ago my husband and I decided to end our marriage of ten years.

We somehow stayed calm and pretty darn respectful of each other as we both agreed we are better apart, while we’ve been living like single people for some time.. It still completely sucked.

Why am I sharing this with you? Good question:)

Because I know when sucky stuff happens, we humans can get so caught up in the mess of a situation and feel super lost and alone. This is a one way ticket to Hot Mess Town. I’m not going there and neither are you:)

What does seem to help is to hear that other people have felt the struggles and pain we feel (in any situation) It’s also super helpful when we know we’re totally normal and that there is a next step forward to a better place.

This is exactly why I love Oprah and Inspiring Sports Dramas:)

To keep myself on track and accountable I’m going social with my journey. My entire purpose as a Health Coach is to help people stay victors in their daily life and not allow themselves to be victims.

Honestly this is as much for me as it is for you. I figure if I literally have to SHOW UP each week and DO THE WORK I know I need to do, I’ll stay on a good path. So I’m starting here–

At Step #1

Get Some Freakin’ Perspective!

My better perspective right now is all thanks to some kick ass people experts I listened to last week. A super easy way to get access to Experts is through Podcasts!

  1. Dr. Katherine Woodward’s Podcast with Lewis Howes on “Healthy UnCoupling”

Somehow I came across this episode on my 5 hour road trip to move back to Seattle and find a new apartment for my dog and I. So timely. This episode on Lewis Howe’s School of Greatness, made me snap out of my angry, emotional state and calm the F down.

Dr.. Woodward is a godsend. She showed me that I can turn this whole divorce thing on it’s head. To stop looking at a break up as a shame filled event. To stop the pints of ice cream, alcohol and Tyler Perry movies.

I know that I am really lucky to have found the man I spent the last 13 years with. He was the right person for those years. We both know that we will each better lives separately. And that great stuff lies ahead for us both. THANKS to this podcast I have better PERSPECTIVE and can see that now:)

I’m gonna keep plugging into inspiring podcasts this week. Lewis Howes has a knack for finding awesome experts that I know will  keep my head up and eyes forward. So I’m gonna keep it simple and plug into a few more School of Greatness  episodes.

Lewis Howes- School of Greatness    CLICK HERE for iTunes Podcast

I can’t wait to hear Pro- Surfer’s Mark Mathew’s on “Facing Fears and Bouncing Back” Perfect for my next dog walk 🙂

I don’t know about you – but I would totally trust a world renowned Doctor that also happens to have some mighty cred in the nutrition world. For that I head to Dr. Joseph Mercola (CLICK HERE for full background OR watch a short Documentary on him CLICK HERE)
